It's also one of if not the first to get factory reverb, which used the 'AUX' input hole for the reverb control. Univox 1051 ( 1, 2 ) tube bass and guitar amp head, probabyl built in 1968 6 tubes, 3 12AX7A and 3 6L6GC, and 2 large transformers inside, rotary switch to change the impedance for 2, 4, or 8 ohm speakers. They have just helped me out on many occasions with parts I needed now. This is the 11th Unibox ever made, in August of 2009 right after this model made it's debut at the Summer NAMM show weeks earlier. It's pretty straight forward, you can look at the photos of the gut shots and build it. What is weird is in the 70's we made fun of Univox as being junk. Sort of like a Princeton reverb meets a Vox AC-10. This one just has a great reverb and tremolo and is very pleasant when cranked. They have a line of amps, but the 17 is the best all around IMO. If you want, you can shoot them an email and they will tell you what they changed. You can see in the gut shots the caps used. Comes with a custom ATA Rolling Travel Case (no keys). He likes Classictone OT and edcor and heybour PT's on smaller amps. Recently re-tubed with new EL84's, this amp cranks it with 2 proprietary Goodsell RGH speakers. He told me it cost him $480 in parts to build and that includes the cab but no speaker. If you run into Richard Goodsell at a gear showheck, even if you just spend a few minutes perusing his company’s websiteyou’ll soon find out why he’s famous for being a character who can barely get through a sentence without a double entendre or humorous metaphor. Like Barry told me, they retail for $1400 almost at the better music stores around Atlanta. They are not secretive in the amps they build. They are using a Warehouse 12 speaker based on the C12Q. They show you the gut shots along with the transformers used. I'll try to find a clip, but it has been seen on Leno and Austin City Limits with Jeff Bridges and the Abiders.These are great guys. I cannot account for it's whereabouts for the last 8 years, but I can be certain that it is the only Unibox for sale and delivery by it's maker (me) and freshly serviced. In fact, I’d say that the Goodsell 17 has a learning curve. Output is 10 filthy low-tech cheap pawn shop watts, as was intended, though somewhere along the way somebody installed an Eminence Legend. The Goodsell 17 knobs Volume, Tone, and Gain, are really interactive, and give a really wide range of useable tones. This one, as many of the first ones did, has a Hammond organ AO-39 output transformer, because the turns ratio on that one were just right for this application. It also has reverb and my award-winning tremolo, neither of which were available on the original, but otherwise sticks pretty close to the U45 spec. What is a Unibox, you ask? It is a loose interpretation of the Unibox U45-B using the same 6BM8 power tubes. This was not added later, it was done at the time of original assembly.
